170 Matte Paintings de babar

Antigamente, quando o cinema ainda não tinha certos recursos tecnológicos que permitiam expandir os sets, gerando cenas de plano geral espetaculares, a única maneira de se obter um cenário grandioso num orçamento limitado era usando uma pintura. Os primeiros matte paintings eram pinturas que hábeis artistas faziam em vidro, deixando certos buracos que encaixavam com pequenos pedaços de cenário ou ambientes externos reais, onde os atores contracenavam. Geralmente isso resultava em pinturas enormes, com grande realismo. Curiosamente este tipo de efeito especial costuma passar batido em muitos casos e talvez por isso a técnica recebeu o apelido de “a arte invisível”.

A câmera era colocada em foco infinito e capturava a pintura no primeiro plano e também os atores na cena aparecendo pelo buraco na pintura e a imagem que o espectador tinha era de castelos fantásticos e lugares grandiosos.

Hoje em dia, com a tecnologia do cinema extrapolando os limites da imaginação, temos diversas técnicas que visam enganar a mente humana, mas o matte paintig, esta ferramenta tão tradicional não deixou de existir. Ela evoluiu junto e se tornou ainda mais sensacional, aglutinando imagens, fotos e pintura tradicional em placas capazes de nos mostrar imagens nada menos que espetaculares. Hoje a copmputação ajuda a criar matte paintings com movimento, com dezenas e até centenas de camadas entre a pintura e a câmera, e nem preciso falar dos softwares de criação de paisagens digitais.

  1. Cara… demorei quase uns 25 anos da minha vida para entender o que era matte painting. Mas na minha época só tinha 3 enciclopédias com tema sobre efeitos especiais em cinema e um programa do globo repórter mostrando como foi fazer guerra nas estrelas. Muito simples e muito fácil. Viva a perspectiva forçada.
